firstsundayThe deal with First Sundays…

On the First Sunday of each month Crossroads meets to intentionally practice loving others. As a large group we serve a home cooked meal for the Clay Street neighborhood in Annapolis. (Oh, and we eat it too!) In a city bustling with luxury, the residents of Clay Street and other public housing communities around Annapolis are too often forgotten…or, just ignored. In partnership with We Care and Friends, we seek to build relationships with this overlooked community and share the love of Jesus in a practical way. Come over for dinner.

Get involved…

We want you involved. Jesus wants you involved. Granted, this may not be with us, but somewhere. There’s simply no excuse for failing to serve with the church. First Sundays isn’t the only way to serve, but it’s an option–an option we’re all quite partial to.

Serving at First Sundays isn’t serving in a soup kitchen and it’s not condescending to some lower level of humanity. It’s sharing dinner with people in need of love, just like you and me. Serving is easy; and, when you let go of your pride, it’s pretty fun too!

Where: The Stanton Center in Annapolis, MD (get directions)
When: 4:00 PM on the first Sunday of every month

Here are some of the ways you can get involved with First Sundays:

Cook. All of our yummy food is made from scratch (or close to it) on site, in the Stanton Center kitchen. Have experience in a restarant kitchen? You can serve by cooking and prepping food.

Greet. We want all our guests to find their seats without too much trouble. You can serve by greeting guests with a big smile and helping them find their way to an empty seat.

Serve. Can you be friendly? Can you care about the hearts and lives of others? Serve at a table! Servers sit and eat with the guests. They share conversations, laugh, make jokes, and take a first-hand interest in lives. (Oh, and they also get food from the kitchen for their guests… but that’s hardly the most important part!)

Pray. Praying might be the most significant way to get involved. As we serve on the First Sunday of each month, we have some folks making food, some folks serving food, some folks cleaning up food, and some folks praying for all of it. We want constant prayer during the meal. You can serve by coming and spending your time in prayer.
